Emma Lovell guiding a business owner with their personal branding and goals

Big or small, you are running a business!

Sometimes a simple comment can throw us off course.

“Sounds to me young lady like you’re running a business”.

This was said to me recently when I was applying for a program. I was talking about some of the changes I’d made in my business over the past year, which included bringing on some more contractors – cue my amazing support team! This was the prompt for this line.

I laughed it off at the time but it keeps coming back to me and it’s pissing me off!

Whether I’m 1 person or 100 people. I am running a business!

Do you know what the definition of business is?

“A business is defined as an organisation or enterprising entity engaged in commercial, industrial, or professional activities. … The term “business” also refers to the organized efforts and activities of individuals to produce and sell goods and services for profit.”

I’ve been working for myself since I got out of uni.

I’m an entrepreneur. I’m a boss. I make s#&% happen.

I’ve bought a house.

Lived around the world.

Worked with clients big and small.

I’ve made an impact on the lives of others.

This throw away line reduced my experience and the achievements into a learning curve. I know others have had this feeling too and I am here to tell you, big or small, you are running a business!

But this statement really hit a nerve for me. It really brought up that struggle that I see so many of my clients go through. The feeling of not being enough.

These are the feelings that were coming up for me and I know it comes up for them too:
“I’m not enough!

I’m not big enough.
I’m not smart enough.
Im not outgoing enough
I’m not connected enough.”

Enough!

You are enough! As you are. Right now!

Yes, we can improve.
Yes, we can grow.
Yes, we can want to do better.

But we can also be content with where we are and proud of the journey so far.

You are where you are because of your journey. You are who you are because of your experiences. You are where you’re meant to be right now!

Celebrate who you are and boldly say “I am enough.”

Because I know I am.
I’m damn proud of my journey.
I’m proud of my 12 years in business.
And I am proud of who I am!
I’ll say it with you “I am enough!”

Go on, comment below and say it out loud – “I am enough”.
