Emma Lovell speaking at a womens event

Tell them!

Hey lovely,

If you like someone and what they do, tell them!

It sounds simple, but it can be such a rewarding gift – for you both.

Recently, I was at a networking event when I was approached by a woman. She explained to me that she really enjoyed following me and that although she’d unsubscribed from a lot of content of late, mine was one that she kept and consistently read.

Well, I can’t tell you how amazing this felt! To hear that someone is not only reading your content, but enjoying it! And above all else, keeping it when they are actively trying to consume less. I said “Thank you so much for telling me and I would really love it if you wrote back on some of the emails, I always love to hear from people.”

She was so surprised and said she hadn’t written back because she thought I would get so many communications that it would just add to the noise.

Nope! I will never get tired of compliments or hearing good words. Most people would feel the same.

It was funny that it happened that day as I had just been speaking with another lovely woman, Sherene Stranahan, who had recently listened to The Content Byte podcast episode I was on. I was telling her about a big dream of mine of travelling the world and sharing it, which I do already on my Lovelly Travels podcast, but actually having a TV show – like Catriona Rowntree! She had actually had interaction with Catriona through the media and said “She’s a lovely person, and I know she’d love to hear it, so why don’t you reach out and tell her?”

I had forgotten that simple gift of a compliment! And Sherene had reminded me, by not only paying it forward herself, but then giving me the encouragement to do the same. You know what, I did write to Catriona and she is lovely and she wrote back! What a gorgeous circle of generosity, gratitude and appreciation we are creating here.

As Dale Carnegie says in one of my favourite books of all time, one I highly recommend to all my clients, How to Win Friends & Influence People.

Be ‘hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.’

It is the greatest gift to have someone come up to you and say “I like what you do”. So often we are just posting and sending stuff out into the abyss and never knowing if it’s landing, if it matters or if we’re being heard.

So, if you like what someone is sharing, delivering or creating – go and tell them. Today, please! It will be such a great gift.

If it is me, like that gorgeous woman shared at the networking event, then please write back to this email and let me know what you are loving! I want to share value with you here in your inbox and the more I hear from you about what you love, the more of that I can deliver to you.

Thank you for all being here – even that is such a gift to me and I value each and every one of you.

Cheers,
Emma “Lovelly” Lovell
